About me

Hi, I’m Jane, a counsellor based in central Exeter.

Life isn’t always as straight forward as we’d like, but talking to a professional can make a world of difference.

Before I became a Counsellor

Whilst my two boys were young I was a stay at home mum. Then as they grew a bit older I was a Teaching Assistant at a local Infant School. It was during this time that I decided I wanted to train as a Counsellor, and so when the time felt right, I started training with Exeter College.

Why I became a Counsellor

I had some difficult experiences and life became hard. I found that I was struggling and couldn’t lose this feeling. Well-meaning friends were supportive but didn’t understand fully and couldn’t help and when someone suggested I try counselling I decided to do so. The counsellor I worked with used Person-Centred Therapy, which enabled me to work through my challenges, at my own pace, supporting and empowering me to find my way forward.

There is something hugely powerful in being heard and accepted for who you are by someone who listens without judgement, who doesn’t tell you what to do, but works with you to find realistic solutions that are right for you.

Having had counselling myself and experienced the transformative effect of Person Centred Therapy, I realised that this was something that I wanted to pursue and share and which I aim to bring for each of my clients.

My training and accreditation

I completed my training as a Counsellor through Exeter College. My qualifications include:

  • NCPS Approved training in Online Counselling

  • Level 5 ‘Advanced Professional Diploma in Counselling Theory and Therapeutic Practice’ (Accredited by the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society)

  • BACP Approved Training in ‘Exploring Suicidal Risk with Clients’

  • Level 3 ‘Certificate in Counselling Skills’

  • Level 2 ‘Introduction to Counselling’

I am an Accredited Registrant of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (MNCPS Acc.). This confirms that I have met the necessary standards to practice as a professional counsellor and that I adhere to the ethical framework and code of practice of the NCPS. It also means that I am on a register of consellors and therapists that has been accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

I also hold a clear enhanced DBS check and am fully insured for all my counselling work.

My practice

This is my private practice, meaning you’ll be working and communicating with me all the way through the process.

I offer a safe, non-judgemental space where you are free to bring whatever you wish. Over time we will work together to understand what is happening, what you are feeling and why, and then to find solutions that are right for you.

When you’re ready to talk, I’m here to listen.

To take the first step, book a FREE 30 minute introductory session with me. This will give us both a chance to get to know one another, and see if we’re a good fit.
